Most of Masasi District consists of gently undulating land draining into the Lukuledi River. There are dramatic rock outcrops of various sizes and around the edges some hills and the edge of the Makonde Plateau. A wonderful feature of the plateau is that rainwater sinks into the rock and discharges continuously in clean springs through all the months of drought.
Masasi has grown so much that a second pipeline project is underway to bring clean water from springs of the Makonde Plateau. Starting near Nangoo the supply will also go to some villages and Nachingwea town. A German company is doing the project management but Tanzanians and Chinese contractors are employed on the main works.
